Acquilegia seeds
€2.95
Aquilegia (Aquilegia vulgaris) — (approx. 80 seeds per packet) is a graceful, long-lived perennial native to Europe and well suited to Ireland’s cool, temperate climate. Commonly known as Columbine or Granny’s Bonnet, it grows 40–80 cm tall and bears elegant, nodding flowers in shades of blue, purple, pink, or white from late spring to early summer. Its delicate, fern-like foliage and intricate blooms make it a favourite of pollinators, particularly bumblebees.
Aquilegia thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. It’s excellent for cottage gardens, woodland edges, and mixed borders, where it self-seeds gently to create natural, ever-evolving drifts. Once established, it’s hardy, low-maintenance, and drought-tolerant — a resilient addition to any biodiverse garden.

Sowing instructions
Seeds are small and fine. Sow from February to June, either under cover or directly outdoors. Scatter lightly on the surface of moist compost or soil and press gently without covering, as light aids germination. Keep evenly moist until seedlings appear (in 2–4 weeks). Transplant or thin to 25–30 cm apart once large enough to handle. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.
⚠️ Note: All parts of the Aquilegia plant are mildly toxic if ingested — handle with care and keep away from children and pets.
