Dwarf Comfrey (Symphytum grandiflorum) is a hardy, low-growing perennial in the Boraginaceae family. It typically reaches around 20–40 cm in height and forms spreading clumps of broad, slightly hairy green leaves, with clusters of creamy-white to pale yellow flowers in spring. Its flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinators, while its dense growth makes it useful as a living mulch, groundcover, chop-and-drop plant, and support species in food forests, forest gardens, wildlife gardens, and perennial borders. Unlike Bocking 14 comfrey, Dwarf Comfrey is not sterile and may spread by seed as well as by root, so it should be planted where some natural spreading is acceptable.

Growing Instructions
Dwarf Comfrey thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers fertile, moisture-retentive soil, although it is adaptable once established. Plant it in a spot where it has room to form a colony, or manage its spread by cutting back flowers before they set seed. Water regularly while the plant is establishing, especially during dry periods. The leaves can be cut back several times during the growing season and used as mulch around fruit trees, berries, and other perennial plants. Dwarf Comfrey is a tough, low-maintenance plant ideal for food forests, wildlife gardens, orchard edges, shaded borders, and soil-building systems.
