Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) is offered here as a small potted plant, an aromatic evergreen shrub in the mint family with needle-like leaves and woody stems, typically reaching 1 to 2m tall and wide over time. Small blue flowers appear in spring and summer, drawing in bees and other pollinators during the leaner months of the year. A kitchen essential, its strong, pine-like leaves are widely used fresh or dried in roasts, breads, marinades and oils, and Rosemary has just as long a history in traditional herbal medicine — long associated with memory and concentration ('rosemary for remembrance') and traditionally brewed as a tea to aid digestion. Long-lived and drought-tolerant once established, Rosemary makes a handsome, productive addition to herb gardens, containers, hedging and edible landscaping throughout Ireland and the UK.

Growing Instructions
Grow in full sun in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH; Rosemary dislikes waterlogged conditions. Water while young plants establish, then only during prolonged dry spells once settled. Prune regularly after flowering to maintain a bushy shape and prevent legginess. Protect young plants from hard frost in their first winter, after which established Rosemary is reliably hardy.
