Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is offered here as a small potted plant, a hardy perennial herb in the mint family forming compact clumps 30 to 60cm tall with small, richly aromatic leaves. Clusters of small pink to purple flowers appear in summer, popular with bees, butterflies and other pollinators. The leaves have a warm, savoury flavour central to Mediterranean cooking, used fresh or dried in sauces, soups, stews, roasted vegetables, marinades and pizzas. Tough and reliable, Oregano does especially well in lighter, drier soils once established, making it a dependable choice for herb gardens, sunny borders and edible landscaping throughout Ireland and the UK.

Growing Instructions
Grow in full sun in well-drained soil, avoiding heavy or waterlogged ground. Water regularly while plants establish, then let the soil dry out somewhat between waterings once settled. Harvest leaves as needed through the growing season, cutting stems back regularly to encourage bushy, productive growth. Oregano suits raised beds, containers and rock gardens as well as open borders, and rewards regular picking with fresh new growth.
