€4.95

Egyptian Walking Onion (Allium × proliferum) is a hardy, perennial onion in the Amaryllidaceae family known for its unique “walking” growth habit. It typically grows up to 60 cm tall and produces clusters of small bulbils at the top of the flower stalks, which eventually bend to the ground and take root, giving the appearance of the plant “walking.” Both the bulbs and green tops are edible, with a mild onion flavour.

Growing instructions

Egyptian Walking Onion grows best in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. It’s low maintenance and drought-tolerant once established.
They are extremely easy to propagate, if you just toss some of the bulbils around each autumn, you will have onions everywhere.

These are an excellent addition to a fruit tree guild or food forest and they act as insect repellent plants, their scent can help to repel pests and unwelcome insects.
