Comfrey - Bocking 14

Comfrey 'Bocking 14' (Symphytum × uplandicum 'Bocking 14') is a sterile, non-seeding perennial herb, offered here as a crown division that regrows quickly once planted. Deep-rooted and vigorous, it reaches up to 1.2 m, with large hairy leaves and clusters of bell-shaped flowers in late spring. Because it produces no viable seed, it spreads only by root division, making it easy to keep under control. Long known as 'knitbone', comfrey has a traditional history of external use in herbal medicine, its leaves crushed into poultices and ointments to soothe bruises and sprains; modern guidance reserves this to topical use only, as the plant is not recommended for eating or teas. Highly valued in organic growing as a dynamic accumulator, its nutrient-rich leaves make excellent mulch, compost activator, and liquid feed — a permaculture staple for Irish and UK gardens and food forests.
