Apple Tree - Katy

Price

€26.95

Apple Tree 'Katy' (Malus domestica 'Katy') is a hardy dessert apple, offered here as a young, well-rooted grafted tree on semi-dwarf M26 rootstock — sold bare-root from November to March and as a potted tree the rest of the year. A compact, easy-care variety reaching 2.5 to 3.5 m, it opens pale pink blossom in spring, loved by bees, before ripening into crisp, juicy, sweet-tart red apples early in the season. The fruit is excellent eaten fresh, juiced, or baked, and like most apples is a useful source of fibre and vitamin C. A reliable early cropper for Irish and UK gardens, orchards, and food forests looking for a compact, well-behaved apple tree.

Growing Instructions

Plant in full sun to part shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soil, in a sheltered spot with good airflow. Water well while establishing, and mulch each spring with compost or well-rotted manure. Stake young trees on M26 rootstock, especially in exposed sites. Prune in winter to remove dead or crossing branches and keep an open shape, and thin fruit in heavy years for better size.
