Broadleaf plantain seeds
€2.95
Broadleaf Plantain (Plantago major) — (approx. 150 seeds per packet) is a hardy perennial herb native to Europe and widespread throughout Ireland. Often found in meadows, lawns, and paths, it’s one of the most resilient and useful wild plants in the landscape. Growing 10–30 cm tall, it forms a rosette of broad, ribbed leaves and upright flower spikes that produce abundant seed. Its leaves are edible when young — slightly bitter and earthy — and are traditionally valued for their soothing, medicinal properties when applied to cuts, bites, and stings.
Broadleaf Plantain thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts easily to almost any soil type, from compacted clay to sandy loam. It’s drought-tolerant once established and serves as excellent ground cover, helping to stabilise soil and attract pollinators and beneficial insects to its inconspicuous but nectar-rich flowers.

Sowing instructions
Seeds are tiny and best sown on the surface of moist compost or soil from March to September. Press gently but do not cover, as light aids germination. Keep evenly moist until seedlings appear (usually within 2–3 weeks). Thin or transplant to 20–30 cm spacing once large enough to handle. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.
