Poppy (Papaver rhoeas) — (approx. 250 seeds per packet) is a hardy annual wildflower native to Europe, celebrated for its silky red petals and dark centres that dance in the breeze from early summer to autumn. Growing 30–60 cm tall, it brings vivid colour and movement to wildflower meadows, borders, and pollinator gardens, while providing a rich nectar source for bees and hoverflies.
Poppies thrive in full sun and poor, well-drained soil, often flowering best in ground that hasn’t been over-enriched. Once established, they self-seed freely, returning year after year to create natural drifts of colour. They’re also a valuable pioneer species, helping to cover bare soil and attract biodiversity.

Sowing instructions
Seeds are tiny and should be scattered thinly on the surface of moist soil from March to May or in autumn for earlier blooms. Press gently to ensure good contact with the soil but do not cover, as light aids germination. Water lightly until seedlings appear (in 2–3 weeks). Thin to 15–20 cm apart once large enough to handle. Store seeds in a cool, dry place until sowing.
