Scots Pine Tree

Price

€9.95

Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) is offered here as a bare-root tree from November to March, and as a potted tree the rest of the year. A majestic evergreen conifer native to Europe and Asia, it can eventually reach up to 35 m, easily recognised by its reddish-brown bark and long, slender needles. Fast-growing and hardy, it withstands cold, wind, and drought once established, and as a pioneer species plays an important ecological role, supporting a wide range of insects, birds, and fungi. Give it plenty of room to grow. A valuable, low-maintenance choice for Irish and UK shelterbelts, rewilding projects, and large wildlife gardens.

Growing Instructions

Grow in full sun in well-drained, slightly acidic soil, though it tolerates poor or sandy ground well. Water regularly while establishing; once rooted in, it copes with drought unaided. Little feeding or pruning is needed beyond removing dead or damaged branches in late winter. Choose a planting spot with plenty of space, as this fast-growing pioneer species will eventually reach a substantial size.
