Violette Dauphine Fig (Ficus carica 'Violette Dauphine') is a deciduous fruit tree prized for its flavour and generous fruit size, offered here as a young, well-rooted tree — supplied bare-root from November to March and as a potted tree the rest of the year. It forms a spreading canopy of large, lobed leaves, reaching 3 to 5 m, and produces large, violet-purple figs with rich red flesh from late summer into early autumn, excellent fresh, dried or preserved. Self-fertile and suited to Ireland's cool temperate climate, it performs best in a warm, sheltered spot such as a south-facing wall, courtyard or large container, protected from cold winds. Its broad foliage also shelters beneficial insects. An ornamental and productive choice for sunny corners of Irish gardens.

Growing Instructions
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost, choosing a warm, sheltered position protected from cold winds. Water well during the first year and through dry spells, and mulch each spring to retain moisture and feed the soil. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to remove dead or crossing wood and keep an open, airy shape. Harvest figs from late summer to early autumn once fully coloured, slightly soft and sweet.
