Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) is a small, hardy deciduous fruit tree, offered here as a young, well-rooted tree — supplied bare-root from November to March and as a potted tree the rest of the year. Growing as a rounded tree or large shrub of 4 to 6 m, it opens fragrant white to pale pink blossom in early spring, ahead of its leaves, giving bees and other pollinators one of the season's earliest nectar sources. By mid to late summer, small red or purple fruits ripen with a sweet-tart flavour, ideal for fresh eating, jams and preserves. Partially self-fertile, it crops best planted near another plum or cherry plum. A useful, easy-going choice for food forests, hedgerows and wildlife gardens.

Growing Instructions
Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-rotted organic matter. Water well during the first year and through dry spells, and mulch each spring to retain moisture and feed the soil. Prune in late winter to remove dead, crossing or overcrowded wood and keep the canopy open for airflow and fruiting. Harvest fruits in mid to late summer once fully coloured and slightly soft, and eat fresh, make into jam, or leave some for wildlife.
