Sorrel Seeds - Red Veined Sorrel

Price

€2.95

Sorrel (Rumex acetosa) is offered here as a seed packet of approximately 80 seeds (0.07g). A hardy perennial herb native to Europe and naturalised throughout Ireland, it forms a clump of arrow-shaped leaves 30–60cm tall with slender flower spikes in early summer. Its tangy, lemon-flavoured leaves bring a refreshing brightness to salads, soups and sauces, and it's among the first greens to appear in spring and one of the last to fade in autumn. Thriving in moist, fertile soil in sun or part shade, it benefits from regular harvesting and self-seeds gently once established, its deep roots helping to improve soil structure. A reliably productive perennial for Irish and UK kitchen gardens and edible borders.

Sowing Instructions

Sow outdoors from March to June, 1cm deep in rows or patches, or under cover from February for an earlier harvest. Keep moist until germination, which takes 10–14 days. Thin seedlings to 25–30cm apart once large enough to handle. Harvest young leaves as needed, and cut back flower stalks to prolong tender leaf production. Store seed cool and dry until sowing.
