Tomato seeds - Beef tomato
€2.95
Beef Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) — (approx. 15 seeds per packet) is a classic heirloom tomato variety renowned for its large, richly flavoured fruits and dependable productivity. The broad, ribbed tomatoes can weigh up to 500 grams each, with thick, juicy flesh that’s perfect for slicing, grilling, and making sauces. Their balanced, full-bodied flavour captures the essence of old-fashioned tomatoes — sweet, tangy, and deeply satisfying.
Beef tomatoes are indeterminate (vining) plants, reaching 1.5–2 metres tall when supported, and produce steadily from mid-summer through early autumn. They thrive in greenhouses or polytunnels in Ireland’s climate, though they can also succeed outdoors in a warm, sheltered spot. As with all Earthling vegetables, these are open-pollinated heirloom seeds, grown for flavour, resilience, and seed-saving potential — true companions for regenerative gardeners.

Sowing instructions
Seeds are medium-sized and easy to handle. Sow indoors from February to April, about 0.5 cm deep in moist, peat-free compost. Keep warm (20–25 °C) until germination, which takes 7–14 days. Transplant seedlings into individual pots once they’re large enough to handle, then plant out after frost, spacing 45–60 cm apart with sturdy supports. Water regularly, feed weekly once flowering begins, and pinch out side shoots to encourage tall, productive plants. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.
