Beef Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is offered here as a seed packet of approximately 15 seeds (0.04g), a classic heirloom variety prized for its large, ribbed fruits that can weigh up to 500g apiece, with thick, juicy flesh suited to slicing, grilling, and sauces. An indeterminate (vining) plant reaching 1.5 to 2 metres when supported, it crops steadily from mid-summer through early autumn and performs best under cover in Ireland's climate, though it can succeed outdoors in a warm, sheltered spot. As an open-pollinated heirloom, it's well suited to seed-saving from year to year. A rewarding choice for polytunnel growers and Irish kitchen gardens wanting old-fashioned tomato flavour.

Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors from February to April, about 0.5cm deep in moist, peat-free compost, and keep warm at 20 to 25°C until germination, which takes 7 to 14 days. Transplant seedlings into individual pots once large enough to handle, then plant out after the last frost, spacing 45 to 60 cm apart with sturdy supports. Water regularly, feed weekly once flowering begins, and pinch out side shoots to keep growth tall and productive. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.
