Sea beet seeds

€2.95

Sea Beet (Beta vulgaris subsp. maritima)(approx. 30 seeds per packet) is a hardy heirloom wild green native to the coasts of Ireland and Europe, and the ancient ancestor of modern beetroot and chard. Growing 30–90 cm tall, it produces glossy, dark-green leaves with a rich, earthy flavour — excellent steamed, sautéed, or eaten raw when young. Highly nutritious and perennial in mild climates, it offers a continuous harvest of tender greens from early spring to late autumn.

Sea beet thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating salt spray and coastal conditions better than almost any other edible green. It’s ideal for regenerative and coastal gardens, stabilising soil and supporting pollinators when left to flower in its second year. As with all Earthling vegetables, these are open-pollinated heirloom seeds, allowing you to save your own from year to year.

Sowing instructions

Seeds are small, irregular clusters containing several embryos. Sow outdoors from March to June, 2 cm deep, directly where plants will grow. Keep moist until germination (10–20 days). Thin seedlings to 30 cm apart for full-sized plants or closer for cut-and-come-again harvests. For early crops, sow under cover in February and transplant after frost. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.
