Basketry Willow - 4 colors (1 of each)
€12.95
This Basketry Willow 4-Color Mix (Salix spp.) contains four willow plants, each in a different vibrant color, providing an ideal selection for weaving, crafts, and garden planting. Willows are fast-growing, deciduous shrubs that can reach 2–4 metres tall, forming flexible, straight stems perfect for basketry, fencing, or decorative purposes. This mix is especially suited for gardeners, craft enthusiasts, and permaculture practitioners interested in sustainable, living materials.
Basketry Willow thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil. It is hardy in Ireland’s cool temperate climate and tolerates a range of soil conditions. The willow stems can be harvested annually once established, and its spring catkins attract bees and pollinators, supporting biodiversity in gardens and hedgerows.

Growing Instructions
Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist, fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter. Water regularly during the first year to establish strong roots, particularly during dry spells. Apply a mulch of compost or leaf mould each spring to retain moisture and feed the soil.
Prune young plants lightly in late winter to encourage straight, long stems for basketry. Mature stems can be harvested annually in late winter or early spring when the plants are dormant. Cut stems as needed for weaving, crafts, or fencing, leaving enough growth to maintain healthy plants. Over time, this will produce a sustainable, renewable source of willow stems while supporting pollinators and garden biodiversity.
