Physalis
€3.95
Physalis (Physalis peruviana), also known as Cape Gooseberry or Goldenberry, is a tender perennial fruiting plant in the Solanaceae family. It typically reaches 60–120 cm in height and produces small, golden-orange berries enclosed in papery lantern-like husks. The fruit has a sweet, tangy flavour, somewhere between pineapple, tomato, and citrus, making it excellent for fresh eating, jams, desserts, salads, and edible landscaping. Its unusual husks also make it a beautiful and interesting addition to the garden.

Growing Instructions
Physalis thrives in full sun and prefers fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. In cooler climates, it is best grown as an annual or started early indoors before planting out after the risk of frost has passed. Water regularly during dry periods and provide support if the plants become heavy with fruit. Harvest when the husks turn dry and papery and the fruit becomes golden-orange. Physalis is ideal for sunny beds, polytunnels, containers, and productive edible gardens.
