Borage seeds
€2.95
Borage (Borago officinalis) is a hardy, fast-growing annual herb, offered here as a seed packet of approximately 15 seeds (0.22g). It grows quickly to 60-90 cm, with sprawling, hairy stems and leaves, topped from early summer with masses of star-shaped, vivid blue flowers that are exceptionally attractive to bees. The edible flowers have a mild cucumber flavour and make a striking garnish for salads, desserts, and summer drinks, while young leaves can also be used in the kitchen. Borage also features in old herbal traditions, where it was long regarded as a cheering, tonic plant, sometimes called 'the herb of gladness'. A brilliant, low-effort pollinator plant for Irish and UK vegetable patches, herb beds, and wildlife-friendly gardens.

Sowing Instructions
Sow direct from April, once the risk of frost has passed, in full sun to part shade in ordinary, well-drained soil. Thin seedlings to about 30 cm apart once large enough to handle. Borage is drought-tolerant once established and needs little attention. It self-seeds readily, so deadhead spent flowers if you'd rather it didn't spread, or let it be for a reliable bee-friendly display year after year.
