Borage seeds

Price

€2.95

Borage (Borago officinalis)(approx. 15 seeds per packet) is a hardy annual herb native to the Mediterranean, long cherished in Irish gardens for its vivid blue, star-shaped flowers and exceptional value to pollinators. Reaching 40–80 cm tall, it produces soft, hairy leaves and continuous blooms from early summer through autumn. Both flowers and young leaves are edible, offering a light cucumber flavour that brightens salads and summer drinks.

Borage thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, self-seeding freely once established. Its deep taproots improve soil structure and draw up minerals, making it a superb companion for fruiting crops and a regenerative addition to any food forest or pollinator border.

Sowing instructions

Seeds are large, easy to handle, and quick to germinate. Sow directly outdoors from April to June, 1–2 cm deep where plants are to grow, spacing seedlings 30–40 cm apart. For an early start, sow indoors in March and transplant carefully after the last frost. Store seeds in a cool, dry place until sowing.
