Sweet pea seeds

Price

€2.95

Sweet Pea (Lathyrus odoratus)(approx. 12 seeds per packet) is a vigorous, climbing annual beloved for its highly fragrant, pastel-hued flowers that bloom abundantly from early summer through to autumn. Native to the Mediterranean and long cherished in Irish gardens, sweet peas reach 1.5–2 metres tall when supported, producing delicate tendrils and continuous waves of blooms perfect for cutting.

Thriving in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, sweet peas reward regular picking with more flowers and are excellent companions in pollinator-friendly gardens. Their deep roots help improve soil structure, and their blossoms attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects throughout the season.

Sowing instructions

Seeds are large and easy to handle. Sow indoors from February to April in deep pots or modules, 1–2 cm deep, using a peat-free compost. For stronger germination, nick the seed coat lightly or soak seeds in warm water overnight before sowing. Harden off seedlings and transplant outdoors after the last frost, spacing plants 20–30 cm apart with support to climb. Direct sowing outdoors in April is also effective. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.

⚠️ Note: Sweet pea seeds and pods are poisonous if ingested — handle with care and keep away from children and pets.
