Calendula seeds

Price

€2.95

Calendula (Calendula officinalis) is offered here as a seed packet of approximately 40 seeds (0.4g), a cheerful, easy-to-grow annual herb native to southern Europe and widely naturalised throughout Ireland. It grows 30–50cm tall and produces a profusion of bright orange or golden daisy-like flowers from early summer until the first frosts. The petals are edible with a mild, peppery flavour, traditionally used fresh in salads or dried for herbal teas and skincare preparations. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, it tolerates poor ground and cool conditions with ease, and is beloved by pollinators and beneficial insects such as hoverflies and ladybirds. A versatile, low-fuss addition to vegetable gardens, herb beds, and companion plantings across Ireland and the UK.

Sowing Instructions

Seeds are curved, ridged, and easy to handle, germinating readily. Sow directly outdoors from March to May, or under cover from February for earlier blooms. Cover lightly with fine compost and keep moist until germination, which takes 7–14 days. Thin or transplant seedlings to 20–30cm apart once large enough to handle, and deadhead regularly to encourage continual flowering through the season. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.
