Coriander (Coriandrum sativum)(approx. 100 seeds per packet) is a fragrant annual herb native to southern Europe and western Asia, cherished for both its fresh leaves (cilantro) and aromatic seeds. Growing 30–60 cm tall, it produces soft, feathery foliage and delicate white umbels of flowers that attract hoverflies, lacewings, and other beneficial insects. The leaves add a bright, citrusy note to salads, curries, and sauces, while the seeds lend warm spice to pickles and baking.

Coriander thrives in full sun and light, well-drained soil. It grows best in cooler weather, making it well suited to spring and autumn sowings in Ireland. Once flowering begins, allow some plants to set seed to self-sow naturally and ensure a continuous supply year after year. Like all Earthling vegetables and herbs, this is an open-pollinated heirloom variety — rich in flavour, resilient, and seed-saving friendly.

Sowing instructions

Seeds are round and easy to handle. Sow outdoors from March to September, 1 cm deep, spacing seeds 2–3 cm apart in rows 20–25 cm apart. Thin to 10 cm spacing for leaf harvest or 20 cm for seed production. Keep soil moist during germination (10–20 days). For indoor growing, sow in deep pots on a sunny windowsill. Store seeds cool and dry until sowing.
