Garlic (Allium sativum) is a perennial bulbous plant in the Amaryllidaceae family, cherished worldwide for its pungent flavour and culinary versatility. It grows up to 60 cm tall, producing bulbs made up of multiple cloves. There are two main types: hardneck garlic, which forms a stiff central flower stalk and is well-suited to colder climates, and softneck garlic, which lacks this stalk and stores longer, thriving in milder regions. Both types offer rich flavours and health benefits.

Growing Instructions
Garlic prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.
Plant cloves in autumn for best results, spacing them about 10–15 cm apart. Hardneck varieties require colder winters to develop robust bulbs, while softneck types are more adaptable to milder climates and are great for longer storage. Keep soil moist during the growing season but avoid waterlogging. Harvest in mid to late summer when foliage yellows and dies back. Ideal for kitchen gardens, raised beds, and permaculture designs.
