Madeira Vine
€14.95
Madeira Vine (Anredera cordifolia) is a fast-growing, evergreen climbing vine that can reach 6–10 metres in length, forming a dense, twining canopy. It produces small, fragrant, creamy-white flowers in late summer to autumn, which attract bees and other pollinators. The plant also develops edible tubers underground, which can be harvested for food. Its vigorous growth makes it ideal for covering trellises, fences, pergolas, or for use in food forests as a living ground cover and green support structure.
Madeira Vine thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil. It is hardy in mild temperate climates but will require protection from severe frost in colder areas. The vine is drought-tolerant once established and adds ecological value by attracting pollinators and providing shelter for small wildlife. Its rapid growth and climbing habit make it particularly useful in permaculture systems for vertical gardening and soil stabilization.

Growing Instructions
Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter. Water regularly during the first year to establish strong roots, and during prolonged dry periods thereafter. Apply a mulch of compost or leaf mould to retain soil moisture and support healthy growth.
Support the vine with trellises, fences, or other structures, and train new shoots as they grow. Minimal pruning is required; remove dead or overcrowded stems to maintain airflow and prevent overgrowth. Tubers can be harvested carefully from the soil once established, while the vine continues to provide flowers for pollinators and dense coverage for ecological and ornamental purposes.
