Perennial Cauliflower (9-Star)

Price

€9.95

Nine Star Perennial Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) is a rare, hardy perennial brassica, offered here as a small-medium potted plant, that produces multiple small, creamy-white heads each spring rather than one large central curd. It grows into a bushy clump of lush green leaves up to 90cm tall and wide, and with careful harvesting can crop reliably for several years running. The heads are cooked just like conventional cauliflower, giving a repeat harvest from a single planting. An excellent, space-efficient choice for edible gardens and food forests in Ireland and the UK looking for resilient perennial vegetables.

Growing Instructions

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. To keep the plant perennial, harvest heads before they flower and never cut into the main crown. Remove dead leaves in winter and mulch to protect roots from frost. It isn't indefinitely perennial, typically cropping well for three to five years, so take a few offsets or seedlings along the way to keep a succession going.
