Perennial Kale - Daubenton's

Price

€9.95

Perennial Kale 'Daubenton's' (Brassica oleracea var. ramosa) is a hardy, long-lived brassica, offered here as a small-medium potted plant, grown for its plain green leaves and near-constant productivity. It forms a bushy plant up to 1.5m tall and wide and, unlike annual kales, rarely bolts to seed, so it can be harvested year-round for a reliable, low-maintenance leafy green. Propagated from cuttings rather than seed, each plant is a genetic clone of proven, sturdy stock. A brilliant, space-saving perennial for food forests, permaculture gardens and no-dig beds wanting greens without the annual replanting.

Growing Instructions

Grow in full sun to partial shade in well-drained, fertile soil enriched with compost or manure. Propagate by taking cuttings rather than sowing seed, and harvest regularly to keep plants productive and compact. Mulch well and protect young growth from slugs and caterpillars. Expect strong growth from spring through autumn, slowing over the coldest winter months.
