Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus) is a vibrant, short-lived perennial usually grown as an annual in Ireland's cooler climate, offered here as a young potted plant in a small to medium pot. Native to the Mediterranean, it produces tall spikes of brightly coloured, dragon-shaped blooms from 30 to 90 cm tall, in shades ranging from soft pastels to rich jewel tones. The unique flowers are a magnet for bees and other beneficial insects and make excellent, long-lasting cut flowers. In milder areas it may survive winter with a protective mulch, or can simply be reseeded each spring. A cheerful choice for cottage gardens, cutting patches and pollinator borders in Irish and UK gardens.

Growing Instructions
Grow in full sun in well-drained, moderately fertile soil, in a sheltered spot away from strong winds. Water regularly while plants establish and during dry spells thereafter. Deadhead spent spikes often to encourage continual flowering right through summer and autumn. In milder areas, protect the crown with a mulch over winter for a chance of overwintering; elsewhere, treat as an annual and resow in spring.
