Dill seeds

Price

€2.95

Dill (Anethum graveolens) is offered here as a seed packet of approximately 80 seeds (0.09g). An aromatic annual herb native to southern Europe and western Asia, it grows 60–90cm tall with feathery foliage and yellow flower umbels that attract pollinators and beneficial insects such as hoverflies and predatory wasps. Its leaves, flowers and seeds are all edible, perfect for seasoning fish, potatoes, salads and pickles. Dill dislikes root disturbance, so is best sown directly where it will grow, thriving in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. Once established it self-seeds freely, returning to create natural drifts year after year. A fragrant, easy-going herb for Irish and UK vegetable plots and pollinator-friendly borders.

Sowing Instructions

Sow outdoors from March to July, 1cm deep in rows or patches, directly where plants are to grow, and keep soil moist until germination, which takes 10–20 days. Thin seedlings to 20–30cm apart to allow good air circulation. For a continuous harvest, sow successively every few weeks through summer. Cut leaves regularly and let some flower heads mature for seed. Store seed cool and dry until sowing.
