Grape - Vanessa

Price

€14.95

Vanessa Grape (Vitis vinifera 'Vanessa') is offered here as a young plant — sold bare-root from November to March and as a potted plant the rest of the year. A cold-hardy, seedless table grape, it grows as a vigorous deciduous vine reaching 3 to 5 m with support, producing small, sweet, crisp red grapes ideal for fresh eating. Bred to perform reliably in cooler climates where many traditional grape varieties struggle, it's a dependable choice for growers new to viticulture. Its summer foliage and trailing habit also add ornamental cover to walls, fences, and arbours. A rewarding, low-fuss vine for Irish and UK gardens looking to grow their own fresh eating grapes on a sunny wall or trellis.

Growing Instructions

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil with good air circulation, ideally against a south-facing wall or trellis for extra warmth. Water well while establishing, then during dry spells. Prune annually in winter to encourage fruiting and keep growth in check. Though relatively disease-resistant and cold-tolerant, protecting blossom from late frosts will improve yields. Harvest bunches in autumn once the grapes taste fully sweet.
