Mallow (Malva sylvestris) is offered here as a small potted plant, a hardy herbaceous perennial native to Europe that grows up to 1.2m tall with an upright, slightly sprawling habit. Through summer it bears a long succession of striking purple-pink flowers with darker veining, much loved by bees and other pollinators. Both the leaves and flowers are edible, with a mild flavour and a long history of use in traditional cooking and herbal infusions. Easy-going and adaptable, Mallow self-seeds gently without becoming a nuisance, making it a reliable choice for cottage gardens, wildlife borders and herbal polycultures across Ireland and the UK.

Growing Instructions
Grow in full sun or partial shade in any reasonably well-drained soil; Mallow is unfussy once established. Water while young plants settle in, then only during prolonged dry spells. Cut back hard after the first flush of flowering to encourage a second bloom and prevent the plant becoming leggy. Left to its own devices it will self-seed lightly around the garden without turning invasive.
