Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) is offered here as a small potted plant, a striking, silvery-leaved perennial in the daisy family that forms feathery mounds of aromatic foliage 60cm to 1.2m tall. In late summer it bears clusters of small yellow flowers that attract beneficial insects, while its intensely aromatic leaves act as a natural deterrent to many garden pests, making it a valued companion for fruit trees, herbs and vegetable beds. Historically well known as the source of absinthe's bitter flavour, and traditionally used as a digestive bitter and folk remedy against intestinal worms (hence the common name), Wormwood contains thujone, and modern guidance advises against internal use in quantity or during pregnancy. Today it earns its keep chiefly for its silvery texture and pest-repelling reputation in the garden. A resilient, drought-tolerant choice for herb gardens and companion planting schemes across Ireland and the UK.

Growing Instructions
Grow in full sun in well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soil; Wormwood is drought-tolerant once established and dislikes rich, damp ground. Water only while young plants settle in, then let the soil run dry between waterings. Prune back hard in spring to maintain a neat shape and prevent legginess, as older plants can become woody. Plant near fruit trees or vegetable beds to make the most of its pest-deterrent aroma.
